Gears of War: E-Day patch notes: the Ranked placement fix and what else changed

What changed, in one line
The 14 October update fixed the placement-match problem that put some players in the wrong Ranked division after Ranked Versus launched on 13 October, improved memory use and stability on PC, Xbox and handhelds, fixed account linking and login issues, and cleared a long list of mode-specific bugs.

Details
This page follows the live notes at one address, so next month’s update replaces the detail here rather than creating a second URL.
What changed
- Ranked: the placement issue that assigned some players to the wrong skill division has been addressed, and placements should now be accurate.
- Stability: multiple memory improvements aimed at crashes and performance drops in long sessions on PC, Xbox and handhelds.
- Accounts: several account linking and login issues fixed, plus fixes to the Social Menu and friends list.
- Anti-cheat: further server-side protection work.
- Quality of life: a setting to turn off the Campaign collectible chime, and smaller on-screen diagnostic text in the bottom-left corner.
- Modes: dozens of individual fixes across Campaign chapters, Horde Siege objectives and Invasion events, and Versus modes including Demolition, Conquest and Warpath.
What to do next
If you were placed oddly in Ranked, the fix applies to placement matches going forward. If Campaign progress, collectibles or rewards are missing, read our missing progress guide first: parts of that are not automatically repaired.
Known issue the studio still lists
Certain Campaign achievements and their rewards may not be granted on completion. The studio is investigating and asks affected players to file a ticket.

Questions readers ask
- Will my wrong Ranked division fix itself?
- The studio says placement matches now determine rank correctly. It does not say existing placements were recalculated, so treat your current division as the result of the old behaviour until you play again.

Gears of War: E-Day codes: none yet
Gears of War: E-Day has no general code redemption. The only codes attached to the game are the single-use ones a retailer may issue with a pre-order bonus, and the Liquid Death collaboration unlock is gated behind a purchase instead of a code.
