Which AION 2 server should you pick?

NCSOFT publishes the server roster, the Elyos and Asmodian pairings and the Region, Faction, Server order, but no population figures and no recommended server. This page explains how the choice actually works, which parts a transfer can undo, and why a best-server ranking cannot be written honestly.

Short answer

Pick in the order the game asks: Region, then Faction, then Server. Every server holds a single faction, so your faction decides which half of the roster you see, and the enemy server you meet in cross-faction modes is paired by NCSOFT and rotated periodically. Dungeons are cross-server, so friends on other servers can still play with you. Nobody can honestly rank the servers.

Before you start

  • Nothing but the character creation screen. The only choice here that a later server transfer cannot undo is your faction.

Steps

  1. Character creation asks for your region first. NCSOFT's server notice lists Europe, NA East, NA West, Latin America and Asia, each with its own roster. The region also sets your daily application hours if you ever use a server transfer, so pick the one you actually live in rather than the one with the names you like.

  2. Every AION 2 server houses one faction only. Choosing Elyos or Asmodian halves the list before you compare a single server name, and it is the one boundary a server transfer cannot cross: NCSOFT limits transfers to servers within the same faction.

  3. The notice lists Launch servers and Advanced Access servers as two separate groups in every region. That split outlives character creation, because Early Access characters may only transfer to other Early Access servers and not to commercial launch servers.

  4. Each Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server, and the opponents you meet in cross-faction content such as the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts come from that paired server. The pairing for your region is in the same notice, which NCSOFT updates in place as servers open.

  5. When queues appeared, NCSOFT's own advice was to create your character on a recommended server, and its new-server notices encourage arriving players to join servers as they open. It has never published which servers carry that recommendation. Reading that gap, our editorial take, not an official instruction, is that the newest server in your region and faction is the closest thing to a recommended one.

  6. Server transfers opened on 14 October and run in weekly rounds per server group. They are free in this first period, they stay inside your faction, and they can close early when a server reaches its inbound or outbound cap.

If your situation is different

Your friends play the other faction
There is no server where you can play alongside them. Each server is single-faction and transfers stay inside a faction, so the only way you will see them is as opponents, and only if your two servers happen to be paired at the time.
Your friends are in your faction but on another server
You are fine. NCSOFT states that all instanced content including dungeons is available cross-server, so the server name mostly decides who you meet in the open world and in cross-faction modes, not who you can run dungeons with.

If it does not work

The server you wanted is queuing or closed to new characters
Start on a newer server in the same region and faction. That is what NCSOFT's transfer-information notice points arriving players to, and a transfer later is both free in this first period and limited to your own faction anyway.
You already started on the wrong server
Use a server transfer in your group's weekly round. Expanded character slots stay behind on the old server and extra slots on the destination cost 1,000 Quna each, so check the destination's free slots before you apply.

NCSOFT server transfer Q&A

Details

The short answer is above. What follows is the line between what NCSOFT has published and what it has not, because that line is the whole reason this page is not a ranking.

What the official notice does answer

The server and matchmaking notice is the only first-party document on this topic, and NCSOFT keeps editing it as servers open. It gives the creation order, the single-faction rule, the Elyos and Asmodian pairing for every region, the split between Launch and Advanced Access servers, and one plain statement about the pairings: they will be updated periodically to keep the factions balanced. It also explains why the pairing matters at all, since the opposing faction you meet in the Abyss and in Spacetime Rifts is drawn from your matched server rather than from the whole region.

What NCSOFT has not published

No population indicator, in the client or anywhere else. No list of which servers are flagged as recommended, even though one notice uses that word. No per-server transfer cap, and no list of which servers are close to theirs. Without any of those, a best-server ranking would be a guess with a confident headline on it, and the people most likely to act on it are exactly the ones who cannot undo the choice yet.

When we would publish a recommendation

If NCSOFT ships a population or load indicator on the server select screen, or names recommended servers in a notice, this page gets a ranking the same week, sourced to that notice. Until then the useful advice is the reversible kind: your faction is the permanent part, your server is not, and dungeons do not care which server your friends are on. The server transfer guide covers the rounds, the regional hours and the one cost that is not zero.

Questions readers ask

Which AION 2 server is the best one?
There is no official answer to that. We read the full run of NCSOFT announcements for the game on 17 October 2026: the word recommended appears once, in the notice that told queuing players to create a character on a recommended server, and no announcement names which servers those are or publishes a population figure for any of them. Any ranking you see elsewhere is built on third-party estimates.
Can I change servers later?
Yes. Transfers opened on 14 October and run in weekly rounds, one round for Early Access servers and one for Launch servers. They stay inside your faction, they were free in this first period, and each server has inbound and outbound caps that refresh hourly.
Will my server always face the same enemy server?
No. NCSOFT states it will update server pairings periodically to keep the factions balanced, so the server you meet in the Abyss today can be replaced later.
Can I play dungeons with a friend on another server?
Yes. NCSOFT repeats in several notices that all instanced content including dungeons is available cross-server.
